Castello Banfi Poggio all'Oro 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG

Bright full red. Mellow aromas of raspberry, dried flowers and smoky oak. Silky and seamless in the mouth but not overly sweet, with harmonious acidity giving shape and grip to the deep flavors of red berries and smoky underbrush. A bit more old-fashioned in style than the spicier 2007 Poggio Alle Mura, finishing with very […]

Castello Banfi Poggio all'Oro 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG

Poggio all’Oro (a wine only produced in the best vintages) is a sophisticated and austere Brunello with just a tiny dab of sweet spice and red rose aromas on the bouquet. Beyond those are steady, savory pulses of tobacco, leather and dark cedar. The wine is plush, textured and rich, with a polished firmness that […]

Castello Banfi Fontanelle 2011 Chardonnay

Castello Banfi in Tuscany does a great job with Chardonnay, as evidenced by this wine. It’s rich and soft, with bright aromas of peach, citrus, vanilla and savory herb. A pinch of acidity on the finish works beautifully as well. – M.L. (10/1/2012)

Castello Banfi Cum Laude 2009 Toscana IGT

This blend of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah shows a decadently soft side thanks to its aromas of black cherry, tobacco, chocolate and subtle spice. It delivers density and substance on the finish and would pair with pasta and creamy porcini sauce. – M.L. (10/1/2012)

Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2007 DOCG

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino bursts from the glass with a textured fabric of dark red berries, licorice, spices, tobacco and leather. Layers of fruit continue to build as the wine blossoms in every direction. Flowers, spices and leather reappear on the silky finish. The Brunello was aged in casks and smaller French oak barrels. Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2007 DOCG

Garnet-ruby in color, with hues of amber at the rim. Oak tones of spice and toasted nut still need time to integrate. The wine is bright and slightly astringent, with a firm, polished disposition, but has nice fruit tones of currant and cassis. Give it a few more years in the cellar. – M.L. (1/2012)
