EDITORS’ CHOICE ~ If you aren’t familiar with Ripasso (a hybrid wine that borrows elements from austere Amarone and informal Valpolicella), this selection from Bolla is an excellent introductory wine. Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino 2008 DOCG

A vibrant, cherry- and black currant-flavored red, with a bracing structure that drives to the lingering conclusion. The tannins are pronounced yet well-integrated, with hints of spice and tobacco on the finish. Best from 2016 through 2032. Soave "Retro" 2011 Soave Classico DOC

Creamy, waxy character on the nose with some richness and a hint of nuts, nettles, flowers and honey. Subtle fruit notes of apple, pear and lychee, with some parsley flavours.
