Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2011 DOC

Dark ruby-red.  Balsamic vanilla complements ripe dark plum and blueberry syrup on the nose.  Rich, dense and suave, with a cherry cola quality to the ripe dark fruit and herbal flavors.  Finishes long and very clean, with rising, slightly drying tannins, but there’s so much fruit here that the tannins don’t dominate. – Ian D’Agata (11/2013)

Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2011 DOC

Rosso di Montalcino is frequently called “Baby Brunello.”  More often than not, it really isn’t, and not in a good way.  With Banfi’s 2011, it really is.  Bright cherry-like fruit underpinned by a fine minerality reminds you of Brunello.  A firm structure adds character and backbone without imparting a detracting hardness. – Michael Apstein (9/2013)

Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2011 DOC

The 2011 Rosso di Montalcino is, as always, an excellent introduction to the wines of Castello Banfi. An intensely floral wine, the 2011 emerges from the glass with attractive scents of red cherries and raspberries. This soft, supple Rosso is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.  – AG […]

Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2010 DOC

BEST BUY. This is transparent ruby in color and scented with cocoa and dates. The rich tannins balance a touch of sweetness with light umami notes. It’s balanced in the direction of braised beef. – JG

Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2010 DOC

The 2010 Rosso di Montalcino flows across the palate with layers of lush, expressive fruit. The wine’s minerality comes through on the mid-palate and finish. I very much like the combination of rich fruit and freshness in this lush, textured Rosso. Banfi aged the Rosso in a combination of French oak barrels and casks. Anticipated […]

Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2010 DOC

Here’s the kind of simple Rosso di Montalcino that would pair perfectly with with risotto alla Milanese (with delicate meat flavoring and saffron) or roast pork. It’s a fresh, zesty wine, with bright berry nuances and a clean, sharp mouthfeel. – M.L. (5/1/2012)
