Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2011 DOC

The cherry pie, wild herb and tobacco flavors are supported by a firm structure in this red. Though tight and grainy on the finish, this has good balance overall. – Bruce Sanderson (02/2014)

Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2011 DOC

Dark ruby-red.  Balsamic vanilla complements ripe dark plum and blueberry syrup on the nose.  Rich, dense and suave, with a cherry cola quality to the ripe dark fruit and herbal flavors.  Finishes long and very clean, with rising, slightly drying tannins, but there’s so much fruit here that the tannins don’t dominate. – Ian D’Agata (11/2013)

Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2011 DOC

Rosso di Montalcino is frequently called “Baby Brunello.”  More often than not, it really isn’t, and not in a good way.  With Banfi’s 2011, it really is.  Bright cherry-like fruit underpinned by a fine minerality reminds you of Brunello.  A firm structure adds character and backbone without imparting a detracting hardness. – Michael Apstein (9/2013)

Castello Banfi Rosso di Montalcino 2011 DOC

The 2011 Rosso di Montalcino is, as always, an excellent introduction to the wines of Castello Banfi. An intensely floral wine, the 2011 emerges from the glass with attractive scents of red cherries and raspberries. This soft, supple Rosso is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2016.  – AG […]
