A striking wine, the 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Poggio alle Mura covers every inch of the palate. In 2007, the Riserva is pure texture, silk and voluptuousness. Freshly cut roses, sweet red berries, tobacco and mint all take shape in this impeccable, sensual wine. Ripe tannins support the gracious, generous finish. Simply put, the 2007 Riserva Poggio alle Mura is one of the very finest wines I have ever tasted from Banfi, and hopefully a harbinger for the future. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.
I tasted a number of new wines from Castello Banfi this year. The estate seems to be differentiating their wines a little more than in the past into an entry-level line and a more prestigious Poggio alle Mura range, which has now been enhanced with the addition of a new Rosso and non-Riserva Poggio alle Mura Brunello. I have to say the new Poggio alle Mura wines are distinctive and highly appealing.
