Banfi Piemonte Principessa Gavia Gavi 2013

2013 Banfi Gavi, “Principessa Gavia” ($15): For years through the 1980s, Gavi was promoted as one of Italy’s finest whites, yet the majority were dull. This reliable wine has the freshness the others lacked, and the lemon-peel, bright fruit, a trace of spritz, and spice are utterly unpretentious. The 2012 (which may still be available) retains the basic message with a bit more depth. Often seen closer to $12. (July 17, 2014)
