Virginia Mariani-Kitt is a family proprietor of Castello Banfi, Tuscany’s most honored vineyard estate, and Director of Hospitality for Banfi Vintners, America’s leading wine importer.
The daughter of the late Banfi President Emeritus Harry F. Mariani, Virginia, along with her brother James Mariani and cousin Cristina Mariani-May, represents the third generation of family leadership in the company founded by their grandfather, John F. Mariani, Sr. in 1919.
Upon graduation from Cornell University School of Hotel Administration in 1982, Virginia became the first member of the family’s third generation to join Banfi Vintners. She began in the company’s in-house public relations department, promoting the company’s wines to trade and media, before transitioning into the national sales division, developing Banfi’s presence in hotels and restaurants across the United States.
Virginia was responsible for the marketing and sales of Castello Banfi’s first offerings into the USA in 1984, hand-selling its award winning Brunello di Montalcino to top restaurants and wine shops across the country.
After taking time to raise a family, Virginia returned in 1993 to assume her current role as hospitality director for the company’s Old Brookville, NY-based headquarters. At “Banfi Old Brookville,” a 60-room Elizabethan manor set in Long Island’s famed ‘Gold Coast,” Virginia shares her passion for food and wine by hosting wine themed dinners and planning the family’s business functions. She particularly enjoys working with local chefs to create menus and wine pairings for the trade, press and dignitaries.
