The specific vineyards where the grapes come from are planted on slopes of mainly clay with limestone and in many area red, iron-rich sandy-clay. The vines for this wine are an average of 25 years old.
The grapes are picked by hand and then they are put into vats by gravity. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel at about 29ºC and lasts between 12 to 14 days. After malolactic fermentation this wine is aged in barrels for about 18 months. The oak is American and French (70/30%). The barrels are 1-2 years old.
This wine has been vinified and aged at our partner winery in Rioja specifically in Haro. The grapes come from this surrounding area of Rioja Alta where the main grape is Tempranillo, in face Rioja Alta is one of the best places in Spain and in the world to grow Tempranillo. Rioja Alta is protected from extreme weather by the Toloño mountain range. The weather of Rioja Alta is largely influenced by the Atlantic and conditions are continental, cool, sunny and dry.
