Castello Banfi Poggio all'Oro 2006 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG

Bright full red. Mellow aromas of raspberry, dried flowers and smoky oak. Silky and seamless in the mouth but not overly sweet, with harmonious acidity giving shape and grip to the deep flavors of red berries and smoky underbrush. A bit more old-fashioned in style than the spicier 2007 Poggio Alle Mura, finishing with very firm, slightly clenched tannins and sneaky persistence. The wine’s solid acidity carries its fruit nicely on the aftertaste. – S.T. (7/2012)
